Why does our PurrForm say “kitten” on the tub?
It is a fair question — especially if you are shopping for an adult cat. We stock the finer, kitten-labelled PurrForm mince as our core 450g range, and the important difference between PurrForm's kitten and adult versions is the texture of the mince.
Kitten vs adult PurrForm
The recipe is the same. The mince texture is different.
PurrForm explains that its kitten food is made using a finer mincing plate, producing a smoother texture with smaller pieces of bone. Its adult food uses a larger mincing plate, so the meat and bone have a coarser texture.
Crucially, PurrForm also states that apart from the size of the bone, the ingredients and nutritional values of the kitten and adult foods are the same. The 450g recipes include meat, bone and offal together with nutritional additions such as taurine.

For the equivalent PurrForm varieties, the kitten and adult versions share the same ingredients and nutritional values. The key distinction is how finely the food is minced.
Easy to portion & serve
The finer texture makes the kitten-labelled tubs a straightforward format to keep as our everyday PurrForm option.
Less duplicated freezer stock
Rather than filling freezer space with two versions of the same recipe purely because the mince plate is different, we keep the finer version as our main stocked option.
Important: this is our stocking decision, not a change to PurrForm's age labelling.

What makes the 450g tubs different?
They are formulated as complete raw cat food.
The reason we keep PurrForm as our dedicated cat range is that the 450g tubs are sold by PurrForm as complete raw foods for cats. They are formulated with the nutrients and amino acids cats require, including taurine, rather than simply being a generic meat mince.
